Winter Training

Hello Extremers,

How’s the training coming? Well, we are happy to offer you some new items that might help you with your training needs. We have included a few new training manuals on our training page with a downloadable version for all of you!

As well, Daryl Steeves will shortly be beginning a triathlon specific swim class to compliment our current Saturday morning swim. Daryl will be working on Triathlon specific strokes that will focus on technique as well as some other items. His expertise will go a long way to a more efficient stroke, so you don’t come out of the water totally spent.

John Tracy has been putting on some really fun, and challenging new strength training swim workouts, as we are now in the base strength training phase . Now you can do either one when you come. So between these two excellent coaches and superb programs, we should all come out of the water first this year!

A few other items:

-Daryl will be putting on a talk in February after the Saturday morning swim. Stay tuned for that!

-2 day Swim clinic in February or March. John Tracy, Steve Morris, and Daryl Steeves will be co-ordinating to offer this. It will be offered to anyone in the province wishing to attend. This is a 2 day event designed to help everyone with their stroke, and become stronger, more efficient swimmers…(Steve has promised to reveal his secrets to success!) This is AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY for those just beginning in the sport. It will help to build confidence in the water, and prepare you for the first time you step to the start line.

-We are considering a 20 km running race time-trial in March or April. Daryl will be hosting this new event. It will begin at Gondola point, and run to the K-Park. Stay tuned for details.

-A 4 race time-trial is being thrown around right now for the new season. Bikes and Beans will host, and paid members can do it for free. Anyone else will pay 15 dollars a race. Winners will be for shortest time overall, most improved percentage over time, and best in each race. We are currently working out the details.

-The junior program is about to take its first steps as well. Daryl is putting together some clinics for the summer, which will include a few mini-triathlons, as well as some training programs designed for all age levels! Only paid Fundy Extreme members can enroll their children in this program (children will be enrolled in the club for free-under your membership). More to come on this. We are looking for peer coaches, so if anyone else would like to volunteer let me know!

Welcome to FundyExtreme.com

Hello Extremers,

I wanted to take the opportunity to welcome you to our new website. After much deliberation and work, you are seeing the finished product. It’s quite impressive, and all of the options you loved so much are still available. We have just decided to expand for better adaptability to give you, our valued member better services and more options to help you with your training.

Now that the new year is upon us, it's time to pay your membership fees. In a month or two, you will only be able to access many of these wonderful options once you are a paid member (you can pay at home right now-for the first time!). Your membership will last 1 year. The funds will be used to finance the maintenance of our website, and to provide some of the funding for the Rockwood race which we are organizing.

If you are planning on doing the Rockwood race in August, we are looking for your support. The race has been scheduled for August 12, and will include MANY upgrades, including child care, special hotel rates, a cafĂ© for spectators, volunteer draw prizes, cash prizes for winners, excellent prizes for age groupers, and a full “multi-sport market” for all those who may be interested in seeing what this sport is all about. We will be using some of our race fees to raise money for Multi-sport Junior Development in the province, so this race is not for profit. It will be a national class event. See www.fundyextreme.com/rockwood for details.

Finally, we hope you enjoy the new site, and support our club. Keep checking daily for updates, as we will be posting many news items in the coming months in preparation for the new season. We will be having a club meeting in three weeks on Sunday, February 10, at 6pm. Bring food, as it will be a pseudo-potluck. Contact Bikes and Beans for details. If you would like to come, we would LOVE to have you. We will be selecting our executive for the year, as well as going over our long overdue initiatives for the coming season. If you are coming, please bring a pen and paper.

Thanks,

Mark McGraw
President
